Statement on Hispanic Heritage Month

September 15, 2003

HUNTSVILLE, AL

As we begin to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month today, it is important that we recognize the contributions the Hispanic community has made to our culture and our country.

America is a nation of immigrants. We are strongest when we honor and integrate those who have made their way to the United States to build a better life for themselves and their families. Hispanics Americans have enriched our country economically, socially, artistically and publicly, and they strengthen our cultural foundation through their values of family, faith, hard work and community.

I am proud to commemorate Hispanic Heritage Month, and as President, will ensure that the United States continues to provide the Hispanic community the opportunity to pursue the American dream.
